Enable SSL in Thunderbird
This how to is based on Thunderbird v3.1 running on Gentoo Linux
Account Settings

Go to the Edit (alt-e) menu and click on Account Settings... (ctrl-a)

IMAP - Server Settings
- Select the account listed along the left side bar of the Account Settings window.
- Click on Server Settings under the account selected.
- Select SSL/TLS
* SSL radio button in older versions
- Verify the following information:
Server Type :IMAP Mail Server
Server Name :mail.obsidian-studios.com
Port :993
User Name :admin ( usually first initial plus last name, ie John Doe's user name is jdoe )
POP - Server Settings
- Select the account listed along the left side bar of the Account Settings window.
- Click on Server Settings under the account selected.
- Select SSL/TLS
* SSL radio button in older versions
- Verify the following information:
Server Type :POP Mail Server
Server Name :mail.obsidian-studios.com
Port :995
User Name :admin ( usually first initial plus last name, ie John Doe's user name is jdoe )
SMTP - Outgoing Server
- Select the Outgoing Server (SMTP) listed at the bottom of left side bar of the Account Settings window.
- Select the mail server (obsidian-studios.com) listed along the right side of the Account Settings window.
- Click on Edit after selecting the mail server, which should be highlighted.
- Click on Server Settings under the account selected.
- Select SSL/TLS
* SSL radio button in older versions
- Verify the following information:
Server Name :mail.obsidian-studios.com
Port :465
- Select Normal Password as the authentication method
- Enter your user name ( usually first initial plus last name, ie John Doe's user name is jdoe )
*check box for user name and password in older versions
- Click on Ok under the SMTP Server window.
- Click on Ok under the Account Settings window.
Add/Confirm Security Exception
- If the Add Security Exception window appears.
- Make sure the box is checked to permanently store the exception (might take a few seconds to become checkable)

Click the button that says Confirm Security Exception (might take a few seconds to become clickable)
Finished
At this point you should be finished, and can send and receive email as normal. You will be prompted to enter your password when you first go to check and send email after making the above changes.Problems
